CLAIMS, PAINS and AUTOMOBILES

The workshops are intended for those local road officials and other personnel who are responsible for seeing that roadway facilities adequately meet the public need and who require a working knowledge of local highway law and the Maine Tort Claims Act. This information should help to minimize exposure to tort liability as you carry out your duties and responsibilities.

This material seeks to explain in understandable and practical terms what the duties and obligations of local road personnel are and what realistic steps can be taken to reduce the possibility of a successful law suit. Roadway work zones and traffic controls (signs, signals and pavement markings) are given specific consideration.

Some of the topics covered in this workshop are:

•Legal Info

•Local Highway Law

•Maine Tort Claims Act

•Liability Considerations at Roadway Work Zones

•Road Sign, Signal, and Pavement Markings - Liability concerns

•How to Reduce the Possibility of a Successful Claim
