Workshops
Drainage, Drainage, Drainage
This notebook was originally prepared for a workshop on roadway
drainage in 1991 and then updated for a workshop in 1993. It is
geared for those people from small towns or other small government
agencies who are involved in the day-to-day business of maintaining
their local road system--councilors, selectmen, road managers or
superintendents, elected town officials and volunteers. It is presented
in plain everyday language of those doing the work and has no complex
theories, designs, or equations. Most of the material is basic,
easy-to-understand and very "user-friendly".
The lack of good drainage of local roads is probably the #1 cause
of roadway problems in Maine. It's imperative that drainage problems
are identified and corrected prior to any other road repair.
Some of the topics covered in this workshop are:
1. Local Road and Street Departments
2. The Ten Commandments for
Good Roads
3. Basic Drainage Concepts
4. Types and Functions of Drainage Features
5. Geotextiles in Roadways
6. Soil Erosion Control
7. Typical Drainage Problems
8. Maintenance for Good Drainage
9. Worker Safety - on the Road
