| The Highway Safety Improvement
Program (HSIP) funds capital improvements intended to reduce
the number and severity of crashes that occur on Maine's
public roads. The HSIP addresses two specific transportation
safety areas:
The Hazard Elimination Program (HEP) focuses
on general road safety problems such as intersections and
roadside safety; and
The Grade Crossing Improvement Program
(GCIP) is
directed at railroad grade crossing safety problems at public
roads.
