Safety Management System

Safety Management SystemThe goal of the Safety Management System (SMS) is to provide an ongoing, systematic, and comprehensive approach to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes on Maine's transportation system. Areas of involvement include: Public roads; public pedestrian facilities; public bicycle facilities; state railroads; state ferry facilities; and connection points of public roads to public or private transportation facilities, such as rail/highway crossings, airports, ferry terminals, and trails crossing public roads.
