TIDE
combines the strengths of data warehousing and Geographical
Information Systems (GIS).
-
Provides
users with an easy-to-use desktop system for accessing,
analyzing, and reporting data
-
Enables
users to generate tables, reports, maps, or even to
pass results from the system to an external application
(e.g., a spreadsheet)
-
Allows
historical analysis in comparing data from different
years
TIDE Components:
-
GQL Query
Software - an easy-to-use querying and reporting tool
-
ArcView
GIS - a customized Geographic Information System where
users can display the results of their queries for mapping
or for performing additional analyses.
Data warehousing
provides read only data that is loaded every week from
Maine DOT operations data sets such as the Transportation
Integrated Network Information System (TINIS) and Pavement
Management System (PMS). GIS provides access to and
mapping of spatial data.
Tide is based
on information in another database referred to as "Transportation
Integrated Network Information System" (TINIS). TINIS
maintains location reference integrity of all of the data
it contains as the highway system changes. TINIS is over 20
years old and it is not considered "user-friendly". In addition,
it consists of several "flat files", such as crash data and
road characteristics data, which are not directly related
to each other. For more detailed information on TINIS and TIDE
