TWO NEW MAINE DOT TELEVISION SPOTS REGARDING WORK ZONE SAFETY

Road construction and maintenance season is here. Remember to SLOW Down and Pay Attention in these areas. For more work zone safety information, go to: Maine DOT Transportation Safety: Work Zone Safety

Also remember that as the weather warms up, deer, moose and other animals will be on the move, so keep a close watch for them, especially at night. For more information on avoiding collisions with wildlife, go to: Maine DOT: Large Animal Crashes

A core part of MaineDOT’s mission is to provide a safe transportation system for all users. Safety is continually being evaluated, strategies developed and improvement actions initiated. This is being accomplished through:

  • Focused look at leading crash and injury trends – statewide and at individual locations.
  • Establishing transportation system crash improvement strategies.
  • Cooperative efforts with other state agencies and safety advocates to address the state’s road safety improvement priorities that include lane departure; safety belts; speed; alcohol and younger/older drivers. This will include safety outreach with a focus on driver behavior.
  • Addressing work zone safety issues through programs that reach MaineDOT employees, the general public, and others working in work zones.
  • Improve crash data and other transportation-related systems to enable enhanced data quality and accessibility.
  • Partnering with other stakeholders to create an integrated safety strategy.
