Survey Data - National Geodetic Survey 2000

The FEDS are coming !!! The FEDS are coming !!

It’s true. National Geodetic Survey is coming back to Maine in July. As you may be aware, NGS is coming back to Maine to re-observe the Federal Base Network (FBN) and they are looking for as many people to co-observe the GPS points as possible. According to NGS, there are 16 FBN sites throughout Maine. It is their intention to observe all 16 sites and additional tide stations throughout Maine while they are here. The folks at NGS have extended an invitation to Maine DOT to incorporate additional sites to the list to increase the number of points in the Cooperative Base Network (CBN). We hope to take them up on their offer and add approximately 80 points from the MDOT HARN into the network. We realize that this will make for additional work but we feel that the benefits will be worth it. We here at Maine DOT and the folks at NGS hope that you will join us in this endeavor and take advantage of learning the ins and outs of creating and observing high accuracy reference points and improving the ellipsoid data here in our great state. I realize that many of you have questions and I will try to answer some of them here.
