Other constraints
Use constraints: Users must assume responsibility in determining the usability of this data for their purposes. Digital maps retain the accuracy of their source materials. The best use of data mapped at scales of 1:500,000 and 1:250,000 is in statewide planning and studies; at 1:100,000 in regional planning and studies; at 1:62,500 and 1:24,000 in detailed studies and local planning; and at 1:12,000 and 1:5,000 or larger scales in parcel level studies and detailed local planning. In the use of Maine GIS data, please check sources, scale, accuracy, current ness and other available information. Lineage

Process step
Description Originally created from 'TIDE' (MEDOT's GIS-enabled data warehouse). SQL is used to return query results from Oracle tables. These tables include information about ownership/maintenance jurisdiction, overall superstructure, substructure, deck, and culvert conditions for each Bridge. A unique identification codes (Bridge numbers) is assigned to each bridge which facilitates in the mapping of resultant dataset.

The condition of the culvert and retaining walls
List of values
Value 0
Description Bridge closed. Replacement necessary.

Value 1
Description Bridge closed. Corrective action may put back in light service.

Value 2
Description Integral wingwalls collapsed, severe settlement of roadway due to loss of fill. Section of culvert may have failed and can no longer support embankment. Complete undermining at curtain walls and pipes. Corrective action required to maintain traffic. Metal culverts have extreme distortion and deflection throughout with extensive perforations due to corrosion.

Value 3
Description Any condition described in Code 4 but which is excessive in scope. Severe movement or differential settlement of the segments, or loss of fill. Holes may exist in walls or slabs.Integral wingwalls nearly severed from culvert. Severe scour or erosion at curtain walls, wingwalls or pipes. Metal culverts have extreme distortion and deflection in one section, extensive corrosion, or deep pitting with scattered perforations.

Value 4
Description Large spalls, heavy scaling, wide cracks, considerable efflorescence, or opened construction joint permitting loss of backfill. Considerable settlement or misalignment. Considerable scouring or erosion at curtain walls, wingwalls or pipes. Metal culverts have significant distortion and deflection throughout, extensive corrosion or deep pitting.

Value 5
Description Moderate to major deterioration or disintegration, extensive cracking and leaching, or spalls on concrete or masonry walls and slabs. Minor settlement or misalignment. Noticeable scouring or erosion at curtain walls, wingwalls, or pipes. Metal culverts have significant distortion and deflection in one section, significant corrosion or deep pitting.

Value 6
Description Deterioration or initial disintegration, minor chloride contamination, cracking with some leaching, or spalls on concrete or masonry walls and slabs. Local minor scouring at curtain walls, wingwalls, or pipes. Metal culverts have a smooth curvature, non-symmetrical shape, significant corrosion or moderate pitting.

Value 7
Description Shrinkage cracks, light scaling, and insignificant spalling which does not expose reinforcing steel. Insignificant damage caused by drift with no misalignment and not requiring corrective action. Some minor scouring has occurred near curtain walls, wingwalls, or pipes. Metal culverts have a smooth symmetrical curvature with superficial corrosion and no pitting.

Value 8
Description No noticeable or noteworthy deficiencies which affect the condition of the culvert. Insignificant scrape marks caused by drift.

Value 9
Description No deficiencies.

This data should not be redistributed without permission. Any secondary distribution must have this documentation appended.

Use Constraints
Users must assume responsibility in determining the usability of this data for their purposes. Please confirm that you are using the most recent copy of both data and metadata from the Maine Department of Transportation (MEDOT).

Integral wingwalls collapsed, severe settlement of roadway due to loss of fill. Section of culvert may have failed and can no longer support embankment. Complete undermining at curtain walls and pipes. Corrective action required to maintain traffic. Metal culverts have extreme distortion and deflection throughout with extensive perforations due to corrosion.

Any condition described in Code 4 but which is excessive in scope.
