County of Aroostook names new Director of Emergency Management

October 18, 2013

At the October 16, 2013 meeting of the Aroostook Board of County Commissioners in Sinclair, the board unanimously confirmed the promotion of Darren R. Woods of Caribou to the position of Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency (AKEMA) Director.

County Administrator Douglas F. Beaulieu recommended Mr. Woods to the position effective October 21, 2013. “Mr. Woods has excellent credentials for the job. His skill set, ability and proven track record as a leader make him a natural fit for the position,” said Beaulieu.

Mr. Woods has worked for AKEMA since 1998, starting as a part-time Mitigation Planner and was subsequently hired as the full time Public Safety Coordinator in 2002, where he also had the responsibility of Deputy Director and Fire Chief of North Lakes Fire and Rescue.

“This will be an exciting step for me. I have always enjoyed working with the professional staff at the County government and am looking forward to working closer with all communities within our region” said Woods.

Woods will be taking the place of former Director Vernon R. Ouellette, who retired from the position October 11, 2013.

Mr. Woods resides in Caribou with his wife Lisa where he enjoys spending time with his five children and one grandchild.
