Campfire safety starts with building it right

Always build your campfire downwind, away from your tent. Clear all vegetation and dig a pit surrounded by rocks before building your campfire. Store liquid fire starter (never gasoline) away from the tent and campfire. Only use dry kindling to freshen a campfire. (Information courtesy of the Maine State Fire Marshal.)
