Week of November 23, 2009...

Make a floor plan of your home ...

  • Identify safe places to go in case of fire, hurricane or flood
  • Practice a fire drill

Check your cupboards. Do you have these items? If not, pick them up at the grocery store this week.

  • 1 gallon water (one for each member of the family)
  • 1 can of meat, fruit and vegetables each for each family member (remember special foods for special diets, if needed)
  • 2 rolls of toilet paper
  • Extra toothbrush
  • Travel size toothpaste

Who is your local emergency manager?

October 14, 2009

Find out how your town will respond to emergencies. Get acquainted with your local emergency manager (often, but not always, your Fire Chief). Learn about your town's hazards, and what kind of help will be available. Then ask how you can be part of that help. Check out our section on Community Preparedness.
