Asset Redistribution for Summer 2007 |
The MLTI Project Team and Apple Project Team will be working together this summer to redistribute MLTI 7th and 8th grade laptops based on anticipated 2007-08 student enrollments. This redistribution process will begin on June 11, 2007. Laptop transfers will fall into three possible scenarios:
- Schools that will receive additional devices to cover predicted increasing student enrollments;
- Schools that will return additional devices to cover predicted decreasing student enrollments; and
- Schools that will neither receive nor return devices since their enrollments are predicted to neither decrease nor increase significantly.
To facilitate the redistribution of laptops, some school sites with surplus devices may be asked to hold on to them, in order to exchange the devices with neighboring schools that need extras. The MLTI Project Team will provide direction on how schools that need more devices can go about acquiring them.
Schools that are asked to return surplus devices will follow the process outlined below to return them to the MLTI Local Depot. These devices will be allocated to the Buffer Pool, allowing the MLTI Project Team to pre-allocate them to schools for their Year 2 Buffer Pool Allocation. Schools that fail to return devices on time may not receive their Year 2 Buffer Pool Allocation. All returns to the Buffer Pool must be completed by August 10, 2007.
The following are the basic process flows schools to follow for the return of surplus devices to the Buffer Pool and for the Summer Service offerings beginning June 11, 2007.
Returning Devices to the Buffer Pool via the MLTI Local Depot (active June 11, 2007)
- Login to DepotWorks.
- At the bottom of the initial page, click the link for "Unit Returns for Decreased Enrollment" (only available June 11, 2007 until August 10, 2007).
- You will be presented with a bulk form requiring you to input individual asset tag numbers for the units being returned.
- After entering and submitting the data into the form, you will be presented with a confirmation list with dispatch numbers.
- Print out the individual shipping labels and affix them to the appropriate boxes for shipment.
- UPS will pick up the devices, just like normal MLTI Local Depot repairs.
- IMPORTANT: The school MUST transfer the devices to the Buffer Pool (School Code 000-00), using the Asset Manager.

Summer Service
|
In addition to the above redistribution process, the local depot is offering bulk repairs, from June 11, 2007 to September 28, 2007. This offering will allow schools to generate repair dispatches in bulk to the local depot, without the need to contact the AppleCare help desk for individual case numbers.
- Login to DepotWorks
- At the bottom of the initial page, click on the link "Summer Service Bulk Dispatch".

- Enter the requested data on the “Summer Service Bulk Dispatch” form for each iBook that needs repair. Required Input will be: Asset Tag number, Primary Failure, any notes, information on whether the issue is intermittent, and if accidental damage is acknowledged (yes or no). (Note: If accidental damage is present, units may be subject to a price quote for non-warranty repair (payable by PO)).
- After entering and submitting the data into this form, you will be presented with a confirmation list with dispatch numbers similar to what was used in 2006. (Note: The major addition will be another column containing links to the individual shipping labels for printing.)

- Print out the individual shipping labels and affix them to the appropriate boxes for shipment. Laptops should be packed in regualr single unit boxes like regular dispatch repairs.
- The user can use the list generated to match up shipping label to box or refer to the label itself (as they contain the necessary pertinent information).
- UPS will pick up the devices, just like normal MLTI Local Depot repairs.
Shipping Boxes
HELPFUL NOTE: If more shipping boxes are needed, they can be obtained by either entering a Shipping Box Request within DepotWorks (allows 3 to be ordered at a time), or if more than 3 are needed, a request can be submitted via the Depot Feedback form. This form is accessed in the lower right corner of your screen when logged into DepotWorks under “Having issues or want to send feedback?”.
