This worksheet was created as an exploration of the MARVEL resources, not as a test, by Pam Goucher of Freeport Middle School. The idea is to get comfortable using the resource, not to get the perfect, right answer.

Go to
get access for the following:
Britannica Online School Edition
- In the search box, enter the name of any country you would like to visit.
- When the search results come up, look on the right side of the page for "Multimedia". Choose an image, map, video/animation or photo.
- Describe what you found.
EBSCO Animals 
- What is the lifespan of a Maine Coon Cat?
- How wide can the Japanese giant spider crab open the claw at the tip of its legs?
Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia 
- Hungry? Search Ben & Jerry’s then search ice cream. Which has more results?
Health Source Consumer Edition 
- This gives you articles on a broad variety of health issues.
- Be sure to check "Full Text" box if you want to read the article online.
- Try some searches to see what you find. Possible topics:
- Ice ream
- Bird flu
- Swimming
- Which search gives you more results: chocolate AND men or chocolate AND women?
KIDS Search 
- Students
- Your teacher asks you to bring in a magazine article about immigration for a classroom debate on the topic.
- Locate one by using the options they give you.
- Write the magazine title & date.
- Teachers
- Locate Teacher resources and search to see how many articles you can find on the Maine Learning Technology Initiative.
MAS ULTRA
- See how many Full Text articles can you locate about bubble gum.
- Modify the search by adding AND history and see how the results change.
Middle Search Plus 
- Search to find a list of articles about wikipedia.
- Choose either an article that supports using wikipedia for research or is against using it for research.
- List the magazine name and date and tell which side the article supports.
NoveList 
A fiction database that gives access to book reviews, summaries, and much more for over 135,000 fiction titles. It allows readers to look up a favorite book and find similar books, or look up a book by plot. It allows readers to look up a favorite book and find similar books, or look up a book by plot.
- Explore the tabs across the top of the home page.
- Go to the tab that says "Search our database" and then go to "Describe a plot".
- Type in this plot description (or make up your own): ghost on the Maine coast.
- Write one book title that you found.
NoveList K-8 
Like Novelist but only lists titles written for K-8 age group.
- Try on the home page, click on the "grab and go booklist" link.
- Could you locate the booklist for 6-8th graders on novels about the Civil War and slavery?
- List one novel
Student Research Center 
- What are the top searches today?
- Your teacher has asked you to locate the text of a speech or letter by Abraham Lincoln (called a "primary source document') Find one.
- Locate a newspaper or magazine article about blogging.
Twayne's Authors Series 
In Authors A-Z:
- Look up Dr. Seuss, author of The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, etc. (Look by Last Name).
- Click on a few of the chapters just to get an idea of the kind of information that is available.
