Area Reference and Research Centers (ARRCs) - Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

ARRCs provide interlibrary loan for libraries and citizens in the districts of the Maine Regional Library System. Free library cards for patrons in its District and backup reference services for libraries are other services of the ARRCs. See specifics for each district below.

Children's Book Review
Member libraries have an opportunity to acquire publishers' review copies of new children's and young adult books.

Continuing Education (CE)
Trainings, workshops, and institutes offered at low cost or no charge for member library staff. See the Maine Libraries calendar for District and statewide workshops and courses, offered for library staff, trustees, and Friends. Ex: Public Library Directors' Institute, geared to the library administrator.

Construction
Maine State Library Development Office facilitates the library construction process with libraries through the services of Maine Regional Library System's district consultants. Review Grants and Funding for opportunities related to construction.
Directors’ Institute
In June the Annual Public Library Directors Institute is offered with key speakers and current topics. An orientation for new public library directors (see sample) which covers available services and resources occurs in May.
Interlibrary Loan | Van Delivery FAQs
Libraries and individuals may request books and journals through their Area Reference and Resource Center (ARRCs for each district are listed on MRLS home). Libraries may choose to join the fee-based voluntary statewide van delivery system.

Mentoring
The mentoring service links librarians with questions to librarians who have working knowledge and experience to share in specific areas.
Professional Collection
Books and AV materials about library administration, children services, technical services, reference , etc. available only for loan to library staff and library students.

Importance of connecting customers of all ages to popular and recreational reading and the ability to assist customers with their reading choices
SCOOP
The purpose of the Maine Regional Library System purchasing cooperative known as SCOOP is to help member libraries purchase specified materials at the best possible price and in a timely manner. Discounts on library books, furniture, equipment and supplies
