Dont Confuse R911 with E911!

REVERSE 911® Interactive Notification System was developed by
SIGMA MICRO CORPORATION in 1993 to give public safety agencies and emergency management
groups the technology to quickly contact citizens in a specific geographic area and
communicate vital information. The foundation of the system is built using a database of
all residents and businesses' addresses and phone numbers and GIS (computer mapping)
technology for a designated county. The turnkey system is a stand-alone product that does
not interact with departments current 911 programs.
The Scarborough Police Department, one of over 100 REVERSE 911®
users, executed their REVERSE 911® system in early January of this year to
send an emergency notification message to approximately 400 citizens. The message stated
burglary suspects were on the loose in the bedroom community and officials needed citizens
to take extra safety precautions and contact the department if they saw anything out of
the ordinary. As a matter of fact, a resident who did receive the REVERSE 911®
call, saw a male, matching the provided description, and contacted the authorities
immediately, which resulted in an arrest.
The system can be used to communicate an unlimited number of public safety
events. Whether a department needs help finding a missing child, needs to warn a
neighborhood of a hazardous spill or simply wants to communicate the week's community
watch meeting date and time, REVERSE 911® can help public safety agencies
connect with people when it counts.
