In November, representatives of EDS announced a $400 million gift of state-of the-art Product Life-cycle Management (PLM) software tools to Maines 7th 12th graders, their teachers, to the Maine Technical College, and the University of Maine Systems. The Texas based company was drawn to Maine by its innovative Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) program, and the fact that Maine students perform well on national achievement tests.
The software, called Unigraphics1, enables machinists, engineers, artists, designers etc. to model, design and develop products, conduct quality analysis and validation checks, and create systems designs in any highly technical business, including precision manufacturing, aerospace, and medical technology. Currently Unigraphics is used in 18,000+ companies worldwide, and using this software will prepare Maine students for the kinds of high paying, new economy jobs that the state wants to attract.
"EDS is honored to be a key component of the Maine Learning Technology Initiative," said Tony Affuso, President of EDS PLM Solutions. "We are committed to supplying our PLM technology in support of Maine's program as they develop the skill of their students into top-notch engineers and technologists for the global workforce. Our investment in Governor King's vision expresses the faith we place in the dedicated teachers and talented students of the State of Maine."
