You speak with them on the phone, they greet you when you visit the Bureau of Information Services (BIS) office, but who are the members of the BIS administrative support staff?
The Administrative Support Services reports to the Directors/Deputy Directors Office. Bev, Barbara, Kelly, and Brenda are responsible for providing support services to all of BIS.

Front Row: Barbara Buck, Carmen Fournier
Back Row: Kelly Hance, Brenda McCamish, Beverly Wrigley
Brenda McCamish has worked for BIS for 17 years! She is an Administrative Secretary and is the administrative support supervisor. Brenda has many, varied job responsibilities. She works with the ISMG (Information Services Managers Group) coordinating meetings, agendas, and minutes. Brenda is also the MS-TAMS (Time and Attendance Management System) group administrator, responsible for performance management forms and reports, is the central contact for the Directors office on personnel matters, and works with Bev Wrigley on the BIS Employee Handbook. She issues cell phones and pagers, coordinates the annual employee verification, and is a disaster recovery administrative team member. Learning new technologies is a special plus for her.
Carmen Fournier has worked for BIS (and the old OIS) for 15 years and is the Administrative Secretary to the Director, Dick Hinkley, and Deputy Director, Tom Howker. She performs administrative tasks, works with the Information Services Policy Board, whose website is www.state.me.us/policybd/homepage.htm, works on five websites, and keeps the Internet electronic telephone directory current. Carmen enjoys working on the websites and says, "Learning new software is fun!" She is currently learning to use Dreamweaver and taking HTML classes. In her private life, she has been taking piano lessons for the last three years and has become a classical music fan.
Barbara Buck is a 13.5-year veteran of BIS as a Clerk Typist III. She handles travel vouchers, reviews MS-TAMS timesheets, processes eye care invoices and tuition reimbursements, handles copier issues, maintains the mailing list for MIST (Maine IS Technology newsletter, whose website is http://www.maine.gov/newsletter ), is a member of the Accessibility Committee, is a backup for building security, and serves on the house and cafeteria committees. Barb is also an MSECCA (Maine State Employees Combined Charitable Appeal) volunteer and has helped with the Governors Head Start Christmas Party for the last 11 years, serving as Head Elf. Barb says that "Something challenging happens every day."
Beverly Wrigley has worked at BIS for 12 years as a Clerk Typist III and is currently working on 46 years of total state service. Bev is the contact person for handling travel arrangements; she also processes performance evaluations, performs receptionist duties including answering the phone, orders office supplies, types contract releases, proofs MIST, works on the BIS Employee Handbook, and is the BIS Affirmative Action Officer. Bev has been involved in the Governors Head Start Christmas Party all 35 years of its existence, and one of her great joys has been to serve as Mrs. Santa Claus most of those years.
Kelly Hance has worked at BIS for just 10 months and is a Clerk Typist II. She performs receptionist duties and answers the phone, orders supplies, schedules conference rooms, sorts BIS mail, creates and maintains the BIS daily attendance file, does photocopying and faxing, and is cross-training with Barbara Buck on processing expense vouchers, invoices, and tuition reimbursements. Kelly enjoyed assisting with the NASTD (National Association of State Technical Directors) conference preparation for which she created a logo. She is "everyones best friend" on payday when she hands out pay envelopes. She is looking forward to being an Elf at the Governors Head Start Christmas Party this year. Kelly said, "What keeps me here is the people."
At Christmas time the administrative support staff become involved with the BIS Adopt-a-Family effort. They are also the ones who organize the Christmas luncheon and other parties/celebrations through the year, when special occasions warrant.
The administrative support staff, as a team, assisted with the NASTD conference. They also perform as backups for the state house operators and the Customer Support Center (formerly known as the BIS Help Desk), as well as backups for each other. One goal is good customer service through teamwork and cross training, making them knowledgeable in many areas.
