Many people use Outlooks Address Book to find information, like telephone numbers, about other State employees. While this system was never designed to be the States official directory is has quietly become the preferred method for looking up information about co-workers. It is universally easy to search, quick and actually provides the most current data. The Bureau of Information Services (BIS) now has a tool that permits individuals to make on-line modifications to select fields in the Global Address List (GAL). In the past this required an e-mail system administrator to update these fields but now you can use your web browser to make your own changes!
By pointing your browser to http://bis-isa1asbl101.w2k.state.me.us/update you will be presented with a logon screen to WebDir. Enter your e-mail users name (John.Doe), your password and Domain. (Domain for DAFS and BIS SLA customers is MAIL ) This will take you to the WebDir Welcome screen.
The following fields are available for updating:
First update screen:
Title
Second update screen:
Business phone
Home phone
Business phone 2
Home phone 2
Fax
Mobile
Assistant
Pager
Note field
Whatever is entered in these fields will be updated to the GAL and available for public viewing. You should see the updates from your Outlook Address Book in about an hour.
We licensed WebDir for all state employees; any agency that wants to add the WebDir system for their departments messaging system should contact the author by calling 207-624-7845 or e-mailing Kevin.Jones@state.me.us.
