Challenge for September

by Lester Dickey

There are two clocks. One of them gains 6 seconds every hour, the other loses 9 seconds every hour. If they are both set to 12:00 noon and started, how long will it be before they are exactly one hour different?

For a greater challenge, but no pizza, what time is it on each clock?

Please e-mail Lester Dickey with your answer and your name, phone number, and the organization for which you work. Or call Barbara Buck at 624-9501. The winner will be drawn from all the correct entries and will receive a FREE pizza, either from CJ’s Pizza or from the EDOC Cafeteria. All answers must be in no later than the 14th of the month.

Last month's challenge brought 42 answers, with 38 correct. The winner, chosen by random drawing, is Kirsten Figueroa of Financial and Personnel Services.

The answer to the August Challenge is: 1) 50,000 miles on each tire

((75,000 X 4) / 6), and 2) 68 becomes 89 when inverted, giving a difference of 21.
