Cathilea Robinett, Executive Director, Center for Digital Government presents a Lifetime Achievement award to Governor King for "visionary leadership in the area of government technology". |
July 31, Gov. Angus King was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his vision and innovation in the area of government technology. In presenting the award, Cathilea Robinett, Executive Director of the Center for Digital Government, said "few leaders understand where the future of digital government is going and Governor King is one of those leaders". Robinett went on to say that this is the first ever lifetime achievement award presented by the Center for Digital Government and Center for Digital Education which she also directs. "In addition to e-government, the Governor is a true leader in eliminating the digital divide in Maine by integrating technology into the curriculum and classrooms across the state." Robinett emphasized several times that "all eyes are on Maine," as she applauded the education technology initiative. In thanking the Center for Digital Government for the award, the Governor in turn thanked state employees who have helped Maine move forward in the area of digital government. "All I have done is nudged you along", said an emotional King, "I accept this award on behalf of you". The award was presented at a digital government conference held for state government managers. |
King, who delivered the luncheon keynote speech at the conference, emphasized the importance of digital government. "We will continue to pursue cost effective e-government opportunities because they make government more efficient, and allow our customers to do business with us when they choose, not just when an office is open."
