MAINE VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROJECT

The Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project can refer low-income people to private attorneys in many civil cases, particularly those that aren't handled by other legal services providers. The VLP has a toll free number to see if you are eligible and whether they can help with your problem.

If you cannot reach VLP via telephone, you may send a letter to the VLP, P.O. Box 547, Portland, ME 04112.  Please be sure to include your name, mailing address and contact information where you can be reached during business hours.

MAINE LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE

The Maine Lawyer Referral Service can put you in touch with a lawyer (for a $25 fee) who will provide a free half-hour consultation. The Lawyer Referral Service has a toll free phone number to its Augusta office, 1-800-860-1460.

LEGAL SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY

Legal Services for the Elderly (LSE) provides free, high quality legal services to Maine’s socially and economically needy elderly age 60 and over.  You may reach at 1-800-750-5353.

HOPE NOW is an alliance among HUD approved counseling agents, mortgage companies, lenders and other mortgage market participants that provide free foreclosure prevention assistance.
