Maine Superintendent Insurance Announces Additional Public Comment Session Concerning
Proposed Blue Cross/Anthem Conversion and Acquisition

Augusta, Maine: Superintendent Insurance Alessandro A. Iuppa today announced the scheduling of an hearing time to take public comment concerning the proposed of Blue Cross and Blue Shield from a non-profit entity and subsequent proposed acquisition by Anthem Insurance Companies, Inc.

Members of the public are to provide testimony at the public hearing. This is a formal and will be conducted in the same manner as the prior public comment held throughout the state in January. Persons who speak during public comment session of the hearing may either make an unsworn statement may testify under oath. Members of the public who testify under oath subject to cross-examination by the parties to the hearing. Members the public may speak without being sworn in but pursuant to Maine law, comments presented under oath can be used as evidence by the Superintendent Insurance to make his final decision.

The hearing will take place Saturday April 8, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The hearing will held in the Central Conference Room at the offices of the Maine Bureau Insurance, 124 Northern Avenue in Gardiner, Maine. Formal documents as the Procedural Order, which outlines the requirements of the hearing , and other general consumer information concerning the proposed transaction can be found on the Bureau of Insurance Web site at www.maine.gov/insurance.
