The State Board of Property Tax Review is a 15 member Board that hears appeals from denials of tax abatements by assessors or local boards of assessment review regarding  non-residential property with an municipal assessed valuation of $1,000,000 or greater. The Board also conducts hearings on appeals involving tree growth, farmland, open space, and working waterfront classified property. The Board also hears appeals of municipalities disputing their annual equalized state valuations (See Title 5 M.R.S.A., section 271).

The Board does not conduct hearings involving residential property, nor can it dispense legal advice .   All inquiries regarding residential property taxes should be directed to Maine Revenue Services, Property Tax Division.  Legal advice should be obtained from a qualified attorney.
