Innocent/Injured Spouse ClaimsMaine Revenue Services (“MRS”) is receiving many 2008 individual income tax returns with a claim for innocent or injured spouse. Typically, federal Forms 8379 or 8857 are attached to these returns. MRS is able to acknowledge such claims for purposes of outstanding individual income tax debts only. If the taxpayer's debt is with any agency other than Maine Revenue Services, the taxpayer must apply for relief with that agency. Processing of returns that include federal Forms 8379 and 8857 for any debt other than an individual income tax debt will be delayed.
