To the honorable the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the State of Maine in Legislature
assembled. The petition of Thomas Esher of Williams-
burg in the county of Penobscot respectfully represents
that in the year 1811 he took an illegitimate child
from the almshouse in Clinton in the County of
Kennebec named George Whitten, which child
he has adopted for his own. He therefor prays
that the said George Whitten may be allowed to
change his name, and take the name of George
Gowell Esher, And as in duty bound will ever
pray.
