Collections Notes: #5: Members in 1996--(by nomination and election; no dues but expected to

support organization). The Gardiner Library Association founded in 1881 owns the

building, pays half of the book purchase, while the City pays staff and half book

purchase. #6: No newsletter, however a monthly list of new acquisitions is

available as well as user guide to Internet and general guide to library.

Content/1. Special Collections focuses on Gardiner's two Pulitzer Prize winning authors Laura E.

Scope:Richards and Edwin Arlington Robinson, other literary figures; the Gardiner and Richards

families. 2. Local history, genealogy, and newspaper microfilms in Community Rooms. 3.

Richards papers (Yellow House Papers) on indefinite loan at Colby College, Waterville, Maine.

A publication describing Special Collections is anticipated in 1997.
