- The long awaited revision of Chapter 10: Rules for Disposition of Local Government Records takes effect on May 1, 2010. You can download your copy from http://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/rules/29/255/255c010.doc on or after that date. This revision will be available on line only. - Did you know? Box packing and pickup guidelines for the State Records Center
- The State Records Center serves agencies in the Executive and Legislative Branches of Maine government. It also supplies services, by arrangement with the Administrative Office of the Courts, to the Court System. To make the transfer process easier, we provide guidelines for packing and marking boxes and for preparing and submitting the paperwork that lets our staff know your boxes are ready. You can request your copy of these guidelines from Michael.Lawrence@Maine.gov or Robert.Caron@Maine.gov .
- Council of State Archivists free on-line records management training for state and local government agencies
- Are you interested in free records management training for which you won't have to leave your office? If so, go to http://www.maine.gov/sos/arc/records/rdstraining.html and take the training created by the Council of State Archivists. For assistance tailored to your own agency's needs, please contact Barry.Marshall@Maine.gov (207-287-5798). We are now able to train both groups and individuals using a WebEx tool, so it will not be necessary for you to travel to Augusta or for us to come to you.
- Retention schedules now officially "media blind"
- Although the Archives and Records Management Law (Title 5, §95) states that physical format has nothing to do with determining that recorded information is an official state record, until recently we were sometimes asked about the medium on which a record series was kept. We are no longer collecting that information, except for records that have permanent value (disposition: Archives). For permanent records, though, we still need to work with you to plan eventual transfer from your agency's custody to ours. For more information, please contact Barry.Marshall@Maine.gov or Nina.Osier@Maine.gov .
