Restoration Eligibility with Ignition Interlock DeviceThe Secretary of State may reinstate the driving privileges of a person convicted of a second or subsequent intoxicant related offense if that person satisfies all other conditions for license reinstatement and installs an approved ignition interlock device. Installation of the device is voluntary for a second or third offense.
For violations occuring prior to September 1, 2008, the length of suspension time may be different than what is indicated above. Please contact the OUI/HO Section (207-624-9000, extension 52104) to obtain additional information regarding the conditions and restrictions regarding restoration with ignition interlock. A person who qualifies for restoration with an ignition interlock device must file a petition with the Secretary of State and receive written approval prior to having the device installed. Ignition Interlock Petition Form (.pdf) Once approval is received to have the device installed, participants must select an ignition interlock vendor to install the device. There are currently three (3) vendors in Maine with installation sites throughout the state.
