Maine's New Design for Driver's License and Identification Cards

Dear Maine Motorist,

The Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles is unveiling a new design for digital licenses and identification cards that will enhance the security of your credential. If you have one of our first-generation credentials, you will recognize the same secure features in the new document.

This license or ID card has an entirely new look, and makes use of state-of-the-art technology to not only make the license more attractive, but also more trustworthy in day-to-day uses. Maine is continuing to utilize the highest technological standards for collecting, storing, and retrieving digital images and signatures as part of our security protocols.

Your driver’s license is documentation that you are qualified to operate a motor vehicle under Maine law. But we also use them to cash checks, enter secure facilities, and secure purchases that require
documented identification. For these additional uses, the security of your license is better than ever.
