When you obtain or renew your driver's license or non-driver identification card you will need to prove:

  • You are a Maine resident and
  • You are a US citizen or are in the country lawfully (legal presence)
  • If your social security number is not on file with the Secretary of State, you must present your social security card or unexpired immigration document, specifically an I-94, to provide proof of social security ineligibility.

  • A tax return

  • Paycheck stub
 
  • Permanent Resident Card
 
  • Check or money order payable to the Secretary of State
  • Utility bill
 
  • Passport or Passport Card from the United States
  • Resident Alien Card
 
  • At least one form of identification (license that is due to expire or birth certificate preferred)
  • Document issued by a government entity
 
  • Certificate of Naturalization
  • Arrival/Departure form I-94 (Stamped)
 
  • Please refer to the renewal packet you may have received for specific instructions or additional required documentation
  • Maine vehicle registration or other credential
 
  • Certificate of U.S. Citizenship
  • Employment Authorization Card
 

 

  • W-2
 
  • United States Citizen Identification Card
 

 

  • Tax bill
 
  • Identification Card for Resident Citizen in the U.S.
   

 

  • Current Maine driver's license with a physical address
     

 

  • Conditional order of restoration from a court or agency
 

 

   

 

  • Maine resident hunting and/or fishing license
 

 

   

 

  • Contract in your name - mortgage agreement, lease, insurance policy, insurance ID card, SR-22
