Title 5 Ch. 379 is a general statute dealing with boards and commissions. It lays out standards for board creation, membership and compensation, and lists boards by name in several master lists. It assigns to the Secretary of State a number of record-keeping and reporting functions: keeping track of board membership, reporting annually on upcoming board vacancies, soliciting annual reports from the boards, and compiling the results into an overall annual report that is submitted to the Governor and legislature.

Not all boards file with us.

There are a few boards created by statute that are not among those in the Chapter 379 master lists and are not required to file annual reports with us. Additionally, short term task forces, often created by the legislature for a specific purpose, are not added to the master lists and do not report to the Secretary of State.
