On Monday, June 25, 2001, the Office of the Secretary of State will hold a public hearing at 9:00 a.m. to hear evidence on allegations that Kevin J. Glynn performed a notarial act in an improper manner. Specifically, a former candidate for the State House of Representatives, Channa A. Eberhart, has stated that Mr. Glynn was not present to witness her oath or signature on the candidate’s consent portion of her 2000 primary petition, which he had signed as notary. Maine law (Title 4, section 1013) requires a notary public to certify that the person acknowledging a document appear before the notary public in person and execute the document. The purpose of the hearing is to hear evidence relating to this matter. At the hearing both sides will have an opportunity to present oral testimony, as well as oral arguments and documentary evidence pertaining to this complaint. |
