Goals: To provide students (aged 10-18) with a unique oceanographic experience on the coast of Maine.
Current Programs:
The Program is field-oriented, with daily trips to tide pools, estuaries, salt flats, sand beaches, and offshore stations. Projects involve coastal seining and dredging, marine chemistry, invertebrate traps, fjord sampling, navigation, coastal geology, and bird and mammal census.
Resources: The Institute consists of a lecture hall, recreation room, dormitories, cafeteria, marine laboratory, and a 38-foot boat for offshore studies.
