Goals: The Darling Center functions year round to support University of Maine faculty and students, as well as visiting researchers from across the country and around the world.
Current Programs:
In addition to serving as a field station for marine researchers, the Darling Marine Center offers a residential semester program for undergraduates and invites college and university professors to bring their marine science classes to the DMC for hands-on learning. During the summer season graduate-level course and professional development workshops are offered. K-12 programs at the DMC are made possible thanks to the Gulf of Maine Foundation, a local charitable foundation that offers a variety of educational experiences for K-12 children during the academic year.
The Darling Marine Center is within easy access to diverse intertidal habitats and the Gulf of Maine. Our facilities include: state-of-the-art flowing seawater laboratories and classrooms, research vessels, SCUBA support, marine library, lodging, and meal service. Our professional support staff can provide assistance with specimen collection, equipment use, laboratory setup, and housing.
