Goals: The National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) program works beyond National Park boundaries to support and encourage community-based conservation action, assists locally initiated projects selected each year through a competitive process, and sparks higher levels of performance in new or existing organizations and coalitions while helping them achieve tangible results. In addition to providing the assistance of trained and experienced National Park Service staff, RTCA introduces new agency and nonprofit partners to a project when they will strengthen the efforts of the sponsoring group, and emphasizes short-term assistance rather than ongoing federal involvement, leaving a project in capable local hands after several years.
Current Programs:
Resources: Staff assistance for full-scale projects or smaller consultations, publications related to trail and greenway development and river conservation, and links with many organizations and agencies doing similar work.
