Goals: To provide technical and financial assistance to local officials in coastal municipalities on a wide range of topics, including responsible growth, comprehensive planning, development and enforcement of land use ordinances, and harbor and waterfront planning.
Current Programs:
Provide grants and technical assistance to municipalities to prepare comprehensive plans and land use ordinances; administer grants to nine regional councils serving coastal communities; provide assistance on harbor planning to coastal communities; and coordinate a smart growth forum for island communities with a goal of creating updated models for islands to proactively address capacity limits.
Handbooks on smart growth, comprehensive planning, writing land use ordinances, harbor management, public access, scenic resources, and water quality; library of municipal plans and ordinances and other reference materials; model land use ordinances; technical assistance; and grant programs.
