Goals: To conduct research and physical resource inventories of the offshore, nearshore, and estuarine areas of Maine and to provide technical services to other state agencies, industry, and the public.
Current Programs:
Map offshore and gravel resources; study the geologic history of salt marshes, mud flats, and beaches; evaluate the geologic stability of coastal beaches and bluffs; and measure beach erosion rates.
Coastal marine geologic environments maps (1:24,000 scale); coastal sand dune maps (1:4,800 scale); topographic maps of coastal lands (several scales, free indexes); aerial photography of coastal regions; coastal bluff maps (1:24,000 scale); coastal landslide hazard maps (1:24,000 scale); publications on marine geology, and Living with the Coast of Maine; online publications catalog and searchable database of Maine geology literature.
