Goals: To coordinate and manage initiatives that facilitate freight transportation on highways, rail, vessels, and in the air within the State of Maine.
Current Programs:
Implementation of the three port strategy through a recent cargo port expansion in Searsport, a new container service in Portland, continued support to the Port of Eastport, and a $1 million Small Harbor Improvement Program (SHIP); coordination of ACOE dredging projects; administration of the Maine Pilotage Commission; and finally marketing and developing Maine's marine, rail, motor carrier, and air transportation resources.
Resources: Management, planning, and marine engineering staff; Maine Port Authority; Maine Pilots courses; speakers; knowledge in marine construction; and other MDOT services.
