Upcoming Coverage Reinstatement for MaineCare Members

During the federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE), the State of Maine ended MaineCare eligibility for certain individuals who were no longer eligible for full coverage and transitioned them to a Medicare Savings Plan (MSP) under federal guidance. A federal court recently reversed that guidance. As a result, some MaineCare members may be entitled to have their prior MaineCare coverage reinstated.

In the near future, affected members will receive a letter from the Department letting them know of this change. Members who would like the Department to review their MaineCare eligibility for possible reinstatement will need to contact the Office for Family Independence by returning the letter they receive.

We are notifying providers of this update as members may let you know about their retroactive coverage reinstatement. If this occurs, providers may be able to bill MaineCare for covered services that members received while their coverage was closed. We will send another message with more specific billing instructions.

Providers can call Provider Services with questions at 1-855-797-4357. Members who have questions can call the Office for Family Independence at 1-855-797-4357. TTY users dial 711, Maine Relay.
