Death Investigation

State Police say the death of an Oakland man appears to be accidental. The body of 25 year old Robert Wade was found in his apartment Tuesday night by Oakland Police. They had gone to the apartment at 3 Heath Street after a relative of Wade's had asked police to check on his well being. An autopsy was conducted today at the State Medical Examiner's Office.   Wade's car was located Wednesday afternoon at another location in Oakland.   Police are now seeking information from anyone who had contact with Wade in the past few days as they continue the investigation.  Anyone with information should call State Police in Augusta at 624-7076 or Oakland Police.

State police say the death of a man inside a home in Stonington is  being considered suspicious.   The man's body was found inside the home at 44 Weed Field Road about 2 PM Monday afternoon.  The man's body was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for an autopsy that will take place this morning.  Detectives and Evidence Technicians remained at the home during the night and that work will continue today.

Maine State Police and Hampden Police are conducting a death investigation this morning .  An elderly woman was found dead at her home on the Kennebec Road.  The woman’s husband, was found unresponsive and taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center, as detectives investigate the circumstances.  

Maine State Police were called to a residence at 1104 Springs Bridge Road Greenbush after a neighbor became concerned and alerted authorities. 

Upon arrival, Troopers located two deceased adults. They have been identified as Mark Buchanan, 60, of Greenbush and resident; and Leah Watson, 51, also of Greenbush. Police believe the deaths are drug related and there is no threat to the public. Authorities are waiting tests results from the Medical Examiner’s Office.

UPDATE: State Police are investigating the murder-suicide deaths of a couple in Augusta as a domestic violence homicide. The woman who was stabbed to death by her boyfriend in Augusta is 30 year old Loryn McCollett. Her boyfriend is 30 year old Eric Ryan, formerly of Clinton, who shot and killed himself as Augusta Police Officers knocked on the apartment door. Loryn McCollett’s body was found in her bed, and Eric Ryan’s body was found in a bathroom with a handgun at his side. The couple shared an apartment with a friend at 93 Northern Avenue in Augusta. It was that apartment in Augusta where the two bodies were found.

Detectives continue to conduct interviews today while Evidence Response Team Members process the apartment for evidence.   

Autopsies on the two bodies are taking place Tuesday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.

State and Augusta Police are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman at an apartment in Augusta. The bodies were discovered at 1:30 p.m., when Augusta Police responded to a welfare check at 93 Northern Avenue in Augusta. While knocking on the apartment door. Officers heard a gunshot from inside the apartment. Officers made entry and found a deceased male. A deceased female was then located in a separate room. 

Detectives from Augusta Police and Maine State Police will be on scene throughout the night. State Police Evidence Technicians will also be working inside the apartment throughout the evening. There is no threat to the public. An autopsy and positive identification of deceased is expected Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or Nov. 13). There is no further information at this time.
 

UPDATED Nov. 8, 2019: The autopsy on Herbert Winship of Saco has been completed, but authorities are waiting on toxicology reports and further tests before releasing findings. It is expected to take upwards of four weeks before results will be returned to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. 

No further updates are expected until that time.

The Maine State Police, Major Crimes Unit assisted the Saco Police Department with a death investigation earlier today.  At approximately 10:30 a.m. this morning, two hunters approached a State Trooper parked near the Flag Pond Road overpass on the Maine Turnpike to report they had discovered the body of a male subject in the woods nearby.  Investigators from the State Police and Saco Police Department responded to the scene located approximately a quarter of a mile into the woods from the Flag Pond Road overpass.

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Herbert Winship of Saco.  Winship was involved in a high speed chase just before midnight on Saturday night with Saco Police when an officer directed him to stop his motorcycle in the parking lot of VIP Tires and Service on Route 1 after observing a traffic violation.  Winship failed to comply with the officer and traveled northbound on Route 1 eluding police.  He parked his motorcycle at Rinaldi Energy on Route 1 in Saco and fled the area of foot.  A Scarborough Police officer found the abandoned motorcycle and began a canine track attempting to locate Winship, but was unable to find him.  

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine the cause and manner of death.  The Saco Fire Department and the Maine Warden Service also assisted at the scene.
