SBA Disaster Declaration requested by Governor Mills makes available low-interest loans to businesses and nonprofits impacted by shelter-in-place orders

Governor Janet Mills announced today that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved her request to make emergency financial assistance available to Maine businesses directly impacted by the October 25th tragedy in Lewiston.

Lewiston, MAINE – Governor Janet Mills joined President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden during their visit to Lewiston today to honor the victims of last week's tragedy and their families.

After meeting with first responders, nurses, and others on the front lines of the response, President Biden and Governor Mills delivered remarks paying respect to the victims of the attack and those who have worked to save lives.

SBA Disaster Declaration would make available low-interest loans to businesses that closed in compliance with shelter-in-place orders

Governor Janet Mills announced today that her Administration has requested that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) make emergency financial assistance available to Maine businesses directly impacted by last week’s tragedy in Lewiston.

Governor Janet Mills tonight issued the following statement on President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden’s visit to Lewiston on Friday: 

“I deeply appreciate President Biden’s unwavering support of us in the wake of last week’s horrific tragedy. By visiting us in our time of need, the President and First Lady are making clear that the entire nation stands with Lewiston and with Maine - and for that I am profoundly grateful.”

Governor Janet Mills today announced her intent to formally establish an independent commission of experts in the coming days to determine the facts and circumstances of the tragic October 25th shootings in Lewiston, including the months preceding the shooting and the police response to it.

“A cornerstone of the ability to heal is to know the truth – in this case, the facts of what happened on that tragic night, of the months that led up to it, and of the police response to it.

Mills Administration encourages communities and organizations to request behavioral health support if needed

Governor Janet Mills announced today that her Administration has launched an online form for communities and organizations to request special behavioral health support, such as on-site mental health clinics, or assistance tailored for specific communities, following the tragedy last week in Lewiston.

Lewiston, MAINE — Governor Janet Mills visited the Family Assistance Center in Lewiston today to personally thank Federal, State, and local staff who are providing comprehensive services to the victims impacted by last week’s shooting.

The Mills Administration established the Center in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, the FBI, and the Red Cross so that victims and their families can access services like mental health counseling, financial aid, spiritual care, legal assistance, and victim advocacy services in a central location.

Governor Janet Mills today provided a comprehensive update on her Administration’s ongoing efforts to provide direct support to Maine people and communities impacted by last week’s mass shooting in Lewiston.

During an afternoon press conference at the Maine State House, the Governor detailed how her Administration is working in close coordination with Federal and local governments to provide resources to those impacted by last week’s tragedy.

Lewiston, MAINE – Governor Janet Mills today announced the launch of a “Healing Together” resource website that identifies places accepting financial donations to support victims, families, first responders, and responding organizations in wake of this week’s tragic shooting in Lewiston.

Lewiston, MAINE – Governor Janet Mills joined public safety officials at Lewiston City Hall tonight to announce that the deceased body of Robert Card of Bowdoin, the suspect sought in connection with Wednesday night’s tragedy in Lewiston, was discovered this evening in Lisbon.

Prior to the announcement, Governor Mills visited the command post to personally thank law enforcement for their efforts to locate Card.
