WHEREAS, the family is the cornerstone of our society, providing us connections to the past and visions of our future; and
WHEREAS, families come in all shapes and sizes, playing a vital role in creating strong, diverse, and inclusive communities; and
WHEREAS, family reunions bring multiple generations together, linking past, present, and future, and provide an opportunity to sustain and strengthen the bond of those present; and
WHEREAS, throughout their time together, families share moments, possessions, memories, love, heartache, homes, meals, and laughs together; and
WHEREAS, it is important to reflect on your heritage and create new memories together; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the value and importance of families, the State designates the Monday after the first full weekend in August as Family Reunion Day in accordance with Sec. 1 MRSA § 148;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Janet T. Mills, Governor of the great State of Maine, do hereby proclaim August 7th, 2023
Family Reunion Day
throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens, businesses, and organizations to observe the day with appropriate celebration and activity.
