AUGUSTA- Rep. Scott Cuddy, D-Winterport, released the following statement on the Legislature's passage of the "Back-to-Basics" Budget on Tuesday:
"Throughout this pandemic, we have asked Maine people to work overtime to keep our state safe," said Cuddy. "We've asked grocery store workers and workers in the food service industry to risk their health to keep us fed. Weve asked health care workers to put it all on the line to care for our loved ones in our battle against this virus. We've asked parents to juggle their day jobs while helping their kids through remote learning. Mainers have endured countless risks and uncertainties over the past year, and this budget allows us to restore a sense of security to our state.
"This baseline budget gives property taxpayers certainty on whether they qualify for exemptions, and it gives our municipalities and school districts the ability to plan their budgets. After everything Mainers have been through, passing the Back-to-Basics Budget allows us to cover our most basic expenses so that we can begin to rebuild after the devastating impacts of the pandemic."
Cuddy, a member of the Labor and Housing Committee and the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee, is serving his second term in the Maine House of Representatives. He represents House District 48, which includes Frankfort, Searsport, Swanville and Winterport.
