Home heating and weatherization resources

Summer is still in full swing, and we've seen record temperatures in recent weeks. However, we know that the cold weather will return soon enough. I've heard from a few people recently about their concerns for keeping their homes warm this winter. Fortunately, there are resources available for those who need assistance.

Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP) Home Energy Assistance Program helps qualified homeowners and renters pay for heating costs. The approval process can take some time, so I encourage you to apply as early as possible.

To make an appointment with WCAP, please call the outreach/referral office at 1-800-498-3025 or 207-338-3025. You can learn more about WCAP's fuel assistance program at Waldo Community Action Partners .

WCAP also has a home weatherization program, which can help reduce your energy costs during the winter. Give them a call at 207-338-6809 to see if you qualify.

Another resource we are fortunate to have is the Waldo County Woodshed, a volunteer-run, non-profit group that works to provide free firewood for our neighbors in need. They operate during winter months, providing quarter-cord piles of firewood for short-term heating assistance. You can sign up for assistance by calling 207-338-2692 Monday-Friday between 10:30 am - 4:30 pm.

If you are so inclined, the Waldo County Woodshed accepts monetary and wood donations throughout the year to help keep our neighbors warm. Checks can be mailed to the Waldo County Woodshed, P.O. Box 401, Belfast, ME 04915, and you can donate wood by calling 207-338-2692 or by sending an email to Waldo County Woodshed . If you are able and interested, you can join Bernice and I at the woodlot in Searsmont this fall splitting wood. Let the Woodshed know you'd like to volunteer by giving them a call or sending an email.

In Waldo County, there's a true spirit of community and looking out for one another. Please share these resources with anyone you know of who could use the help.

As always, please feel welcome to contact me at Rep. Paige Zeigler with your questions or if you are having trouble navigating state agencies. It is an honor to continue to serve as your state representative.
