AUGUSTA - Rep. Holly T. Sargent, D-York, has been appointed to serve on the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) by Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland.
NEBHE was founded more than 65 years ago and works with New England's higher education stakeholders in public and private education to support innovation, engage conversation and drive change. NEBHE promotes greater education opportunities and services for residents of New England and its more than 270 colleges and universities.
"I am honored to represent our state in pursuing best practices and innovative programs in higher education with my legislative colleagues across New England," said Sargent. "Maine's rich array of public and private institutions of higher education play crucial roles in strengthening Maine's economy. I look forward to engaging in this work."
Rep. Sargent, a member of the Legislature's Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, is serving her first term in the Maine House and represents part of York. She is also the founding director of the Harvard Women's Leadership Board. Previously, Rep. Sargent served for nearly 20 years as the senior associate dean for strategy and external affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School. She has also served as the executive director for development of the Rhodes Trust, the global organization overseeing the Rhodes Scholars.
