How to Get Started
Your child can sign-up to be part of the Summer Reading Program by visiting the Maine State Library at 230 State Street, Augusta.
How the Program Works
Activities are planned for all ages to encourage participants to achieve reading and literacy goals. A wide variety of materials count toward reading goals, including: fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, comic books, magazines, audio books and ebooks. Have a question about other materials? Just ask!
Children 0-5
Our youngest participants receive a worksheet with early literacy activities. When children accomplish all of the activities, they receive a free book!
School-aged Children
Kids in grades K-5 receive a log book to keep track of the books they read. Kids will set their own reading goals (minimum of three books) according to ability. When the goal is reached, the kids will receive a free book! Kids who exceed their goals will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize.
Teens and Tweens
Kids and young adults in grades 6-12 receive a log book to track the books they read. They will set their own reading goals (minimum of three books) according to ability. When the goal is reached, they will receive a free book! If they exceed their goals, they will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize.
Adults
The fun isn't just for kids, people over age can also participate in summer reading! Sign up to receive a form to keep track of the books you read. For every three books read, you will receive a free book!
