I have been receiving privacy notices in the mail from my bank and credit union, finance company, insurance company, and investment firm. What is this all about?
-
In 1999 the Federal government passed a law called the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act. The law requires these institutions to annually send you a notice regarding your privacy rights. In the notices, the companies must tell you what information they collect about you and with whom they share that information. Further, they must offer you an opportunity to "opt-out" of having your information shared beyond exceptions provided by law.

Where do I register so that I will not get annoying telemarketing calls?
-
The Federal government created a national registry to make it easier and more efficient for you to stop getting telemarketing calls you don't want. You can register online at https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx or call toll-free, 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236), from the number you wish to register. Registration is free.
