Empowering Maine’s Veterans
The Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services (MBVS) is actively engaged in several initiatives to support veterans across the state. Notable programs include:
Suicide Prevention Efforts: MBVS has been awarded a $750,000 grant through the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP). This funding is dedicated to enhancing community-based suicide prevention services, including outreach, mental health screenings, case management, peer support, and connecting veterans and their families to essential resources.
Homeless Veterans Coordination: MBVS has established a dedicated Homeless Veterans Coordination Team to address and reduce veteran homelessness in Maine. The team works alongside partnering agencies to provide support and resources to veterans facing housing challenges.
Welcome Home Project: Understanding the challenges veterans may face during reintegration, MBVS launched the Welcome Home Project to provide returning service members with essential support and resources. A Veteran Services Officer from our office conducts check-ins at 30, 90, and 180-day intervals to ensure that veterans returning to Maine or relocating here for the first time are fully connected to the benefits and services available to them.
Maine Veterans' Dental Network (MVDN): The Maine Veterans' Dental Network was established to provide eligible veterans with access to essential dental care services at no cost. Through a partnership with participating dental clinics across the state, MBVS ensures that veterans who may not qualify for VA dental benefits can receive preventative and restorative dental treatments. This initiative is made possible through funding and collaboration with community partners committed to supporting Maine’s veteran population.
