I-95 Northbound Closure: Carmel

UPDATE:I-95 Northbound has now reopened

State police say about 30 vehicles were involved in this morning’s chain-reaction crash on the northbound side of I-95 in Carmel. The crash has closed the northbound lanes. We expect them to remain closed until at least noon. Several hundred drivers have been stranded in the resulting traffic backup. State troopers and MaineDOT are planning to use a crossover to get those vehicles turned around and moving again.

MaineDOT crews had treated the road this morning. At the time of the crash, the road conditions were bare and wet. State police say it appears the sun may have blinded drivers this morning. We’ve included a picture from a MaineDOT camera from Newport to show what the northbound view looked like earlier today.
