Purpose

The Legislature finds the practice of athletic training affects the public health, safety, and welfare and is subject to regulation and control in the public interest. The purpose of regulating athletic trainers is to protect the public from unqualified athletic trainers and from unprofessional conduct by persons licensed to use the title "Athletic Trainer."

The primary responsibility of the Office is to review applicants for licensure for the practice of athletic training, as well as to compile and maintain current information on licensed Athletic Trainers in the State of Maine.
